Dell Inc. (Quest Software) · Case study
Multi-platform vWorkspace
Outcome
Five cross-platform apps: a Windows experience carried to iOS and Android, then Mac, Linux, HTML and embedded. Dell Software Silver Award, Q2 FY’14.
The brief
Dell / Quest vWorkspace spanned multiple client platforms. The challenge was adapting a Windows-centered UI language to iOS, Android, Mac, Linux, HTML, and embedded surfaces without fragmenting the product experience.
My role
UX/UI and graphic design across five cross-platform applications: information architecture, wireframes, branding, and user testing.
Process
- Establish a core IA that could flex across platforms
- Adapt patterns to platform conventions without losing product identity
- Validate with user testing across key surfaces
Keyboard-extension sketches and the New Pointer workflow: touch problems worked out on paper first.
The system
The iPad connector, Zero Client and non-Windows connector wireframes: one experience, carried across platforms.
Detail & identity
The extended keyboard and the touch pointer, designed as reusable pieces of the connector family.
Out in the world
The work was recognized with a Dell Software Silver Award (Q2 FY’14).
Outcome
Designed and launched five cross-platform apps for iOS and Android, then carried the designs to Mac, Linux, HTML and embedded systems, covering QA, ideation, design, IA, wireframes, documentation, branding and user testing.
